We strive to improve drug delivery for different therapeutic targets via the dermal route and to elucidate the mechanisms behind changes in skin physiology that result in altered barrier function. Through innovative formulation design we aim to find optimised solutions for new therapeutic entities or cosmetic agents that we test in pre-clinical and clinical settings. more

Intracellular drug delivery (Lächelt)

Our research focusses on the synthesis, characterization and application of nanopharmaceuticals for the delivery of drugs and biomolecules across cellular barriers.
Pharmacokinetic properties are inherent characteristics of drug molecules that cannot be changed without derivatization. more

Molecular Drug Targeting (Rademacher)

The Molecular Drug Targeting (MDT) lab has a strong focus on the development of small molecule ligands for targeted delivery purposes. For this, protein-ligand interactions are investigated using biophysical and computational techniques as well as cell-based methods. more

Nanomedicine and pharmaceutical biophysics (Dailey)

Our research group focuses on different aspects of the formulation and characterization of nanomedicines for the delivery to the respiratory system, lung toxicology of nanoplastics and biophysical studies of colloids for membrane-related studies and drug delivery purposes. more

Smart Drug Delivery (Wirth)

Wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) is a dietary lectin that adheres to the mucus as well as the membrane of absorptive cells and it is taken up into the cells. For smart drug delivery the question arises whether WGA can carry drug delivery systems as a backpack like a “Sherpa” to or into absorptive cells. more
